Coach's Corner

It has been a great start to the adjusted 2020 Queensland Premier Rugby Season. For the first time ever, the club has fielded a Senior Men’s 3rd Grade team and a Woman’s 15 Team. During our first two rounds the success of the club was evident with each of our 6 teams gaining victory and providing Bond University with historic clean sweeps against Sunnybank and North’s.

The effort and commitment of the players is commendable as they work hard at training and continue to develop the culture of the club off the field. This week see’s the competition favourites, East’s, travel down to the Canal in what will be a very entertaining game.  In 1st grade we will contest for the Batty-Bremmner-Thomas Trophy as well as challenge for the Bunter Bowl – two pieces of silverware the club is eager to hold.

We also congratulate our newest Queensland Reds representative Zane Nonngorr who made his debut recently against the Waratahs – we look forward to seeing Zane run out for the Bond Bull Sharks in the near future.

Thanks you for all your support and I look forward to seeing everyone at the rugby!

How long have you been playing rugby?
I have been playing rugby since I was 9 years old.

Position: Hooker

Favourite player and why?
"My favourite player is Dane Coles because he’s a fast forward and has the qualities of a back".

Your favourite/most memorable rugby moment?
"When I was a part of the Queensland White team at the National 7s. Our team played off for 4th vs the Queensland Red team. It was memorable because all the girls just enjoyed it and had fun and we got a result we never thought we’d reach".

What made you want to play for Bond University?
"I got picked up by one of the coaches and since then I have stayed and enjoyed the environment! It feels like sisterhood and I love that".

What is one thing that stands out to you in regard to the Bond University Women’s Rugby Program?
"That everyone who is pushing girls rugby in Bond Uni is striving to get us noticed and setting high standards for the competition to be seen".

What are you most looking forward to in the 2020/21 season?
"I’m most looking forward to doing the best I can and putting 110% all the time. I believe that if I continue to show this level of effort and this type of attitude then it will take me to places I dream of. As well as seeing the girls grow along side me and seeing them happy and proud of their individual achievements".

Game Day Rituals

Breakfast:    "Eggs on toast or porridge".

Pre game song:     "Freedom by Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar".

Anything that has to be done before you play?
"I always play with the footy ball before games, after I tie my boots I press my hands into my boots, it gets me pumped and ready some how. I also love to have a chat with the girls and see where they are all at. We hype each other up from that, then we are ready to go".
