Dear Bond University Rugby Family

Welcome back to the Canal

We would like to thank all players, supporters, volunteers, sponsors and staff for your support and patience over the past 3 months, now let's  enjoy some Rugby!

The Club is excited to be playing our first round of the Allsports Physiotherapy Hospital Challenge Cup this weekend at The Canal against Sunnybank. The 11 round competition commenced last week with Bond Uni having a Bye in the first round. Sunnybank will be looking for a win after a 24 – 51 loss to Easts in Premier grade last weekend while the Bond boys are chomping at the bit after a competitive trial v University of Qld 2 weeks ago in Brisbane. In 100 minutes of wet rugby, 40+ Senior players had some valuable game time against UQ, making it difficult for the Coaches this weekend to pick their teams from the 50+ senior players who have been training at Bond this year. For this weekend only, we will play a 3rd grade trial game against Sunnybank kicking off at 10am.

Saturday will be the first outing in a Bond University Rugby jersey for our pioneering Women’s XV team, who kick off at 5.30pm after 1 Grade. Although many of the girls played their first game of XVs Rugby against UQ 2 weeks ago, we have a stack of young talent who have rugby experience through our 7s program. Our Bond girls will be a competitive outfit this season and we welcome them to the Bond University Rugby Club.

Our Colts program has been busy too, training Saturday’s in preparation for this weekend’s game and the 2020 season. Colts 1 and Colts 2 are a mix of 2019 talent and some new faces combining to make 2 competitive teams for the 2020 season. Our Colts 3 will have to wait another week to start the 2020 season with a further BYE this weekend.

Our new look Game Day will see our Saturday’s stacked with Rugby from 8.10am through until 7pm. We will have a 30min buffer between games to allow for change room cleaning.

This weekend’s game times v Sunnybank at The Canal:

8.10am – 9.30am        Colts 2
10.00am – 11.20am    3 Grade
11.50am – 1.10pm      Colts 1
1.40pm – 3.00pm        2nd Grade
3.30pm - 5.00pm         1st Grade
5.30pm - 6.50pm          Womens XV

Congratulations to Zane Nongorr, who has been selected on the bench for the Reds this weekend for the first time. Zane graduated from TSS last year, is studying and playing Rugby at Bond University and has been training in the Reds bubble this season. The Bond Rugby Club are very proud to wish Zane all the best for a potential debut in Super Rugby this weekend! Go well Zane!!
